Resumen:
The family, finding a diagnosis of infantile autism in their midst is experiencing difficulties
due to lack of preparation and fear of parents, can affect the development of children. The
impact generated by the discovery of autism may lead to the emergence of overload and
emotional stressors. This study seeks to integrative way evaluate the bibliographic production
consists of research reports indexed in databases (LILACS and SciELO), produced from 2004
to 2014, on the topic of psychosocial impact on families of autistic children; identify what
causes such an impact and its implications for family functioning; investigate convergent
themes in published articles that empower the organization and analysis of data and identify
the main difficulties and the use of coping strategies to deal with the condition have a son/
brother who demand special care. The research is an integrative literature review. After using
inclusion and exclusion criteria, 18 articles evaluated with methodological rigor, in order to
ascertain whether the methods and results of the research are sufficiently valid to be
considered were selected. In categorization analysis, we used thematic analysis proposed by
Bardin. According to the results, there was a difficulty of parents to distribute tasks among
themselves and differentiate the relations of father-mother and husband-wife. The
communication presents itself as one of the major complications due to the difference in the
development of autism. Stress is still the biggest problem caused by the impact of the
diagnosis of autism and the doubts and uncertainties aroused the family. The most frequently
used coping strategies are psychodynamic therapies and group activities in order to facilitate
the interaction between the child and their family. It is considered that it is of great
importance increased interest and the number of research about the topic.
