Resumo:
The professional identity of nurses is strongly linked to their specific activities, to whom they are intended, as well as to their results. This is formed by the combination of several factors, among them, its relationship with society. And it has, in the context of Basic Attention, educational, assistance, scientific, social and political role. This study aimed to analyze the perception of the users about the professional identity of the nurse of Basic Attention. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, developed with users of Basic Attention from the city of Cajazeiras, Paraíba. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed according to the Collective Subject Discourse. The research began with the approval of the project by the Research Ethics Committee. All the steps of the research followed closely the Resolution 510/2016 of the National Health Council. From the analysis of the constructed themes, it was noticed that the professional identity acts as determinant for the recognition of this category, mainly through the vision of the users, being sometimes limited to dress, as a form of recognition of the nurse. There was also a lack of understanding of the specific practices of nurses, and this professional category was perceived as subordinate to the medical professional. It is also worth noting the use of light technologies as a guideline for nurses' practical care in Basic Attention, acting in the promotion of a human and social interaction with the users. This study revealed dissonances regarding the understanding of the nursing professional's identity, and it is necessary to raise awareness and recognition of their identity and potentialities, in order to establish it as a scientific category that is part of the health team, as well as with capacity and autonomy for to meet the health needs of the population in its territory.
