Abstract:
Chronic diseases with evidence for the arterial Hypertension and Diabetes mellitus are the main causes of mortality in the country. The treatment of these diseases is through allopathic medications and medicinal plants, this association is each time frequent increasing the risks of interactions occurring. This study aimed to describe, through a literature review, the main interactions between medicinal plants and allopathic medicaments used in the diabetes mellitus therapy and Arterial Hypertension and to discuss the implications of using these products. Accomplished a narrative review of the literature in papers published in the period 2006-2016 addressing medicaments interactions with medicinal plants. The medicinal plants addressed in this study to treat hypertension were Allium sativum, Alpinia zerumbet, Citrus sp., Passiflora sp., Cymbopogon cytratus, Sechium edule. Were evaluated the possible interactions of these plants with allopathic medicaments to treat hypertension. To treat diabetes were selected 7 plants are they Allium sativum, Anacardium occidentale, Bauhinia forficata, Bidens pilosa, Cissus sicyoides, Cynara scolymus e Momordica charantia is having evaluated the possible interactions of these plants with the allopathic medications used to treat the diabetes. Observed to the main interactions involved in the use of medicinal plants associated with the use of drugs to treat hypertension and diabetes are the pharmacodynamic type, thus it is necessary to be cautious when associating the use of plants for medicinal products
