Resumo:
Hospital infections are the infectious evolutions that occur in the hospital, and they are
generally possible to prevent. To the transmission of infectious agents occurs mainly by
health professionals, who are in contact with many patients and transit throughout the hospital
area, which may lead these microorganisms from one place to another. In order to minimize
the incidence and severity of the hospital infections, it was created the Hospital Infection
Control Program, responsible for establishing the Hospital Infection Control Commission.
The nurse in this committee performs functions how to research and how to evaluate possible
causes of hospital infections and how to elaborate control measures. Based on these, this
study aimed to analyze the perception of clinical nurses about the function of the Hospital
Infection Control Commission. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach that
was developed at the University Hospital Júlio Bandeira in the city of Cajazeiras-PB. The data
collection was done through a recorded interview guided by a semi-structured form, later it
had been analyzed according to the Laurence Bardin’ s method. This research has fulfilled all
the requirements of Resolution nº. 466, of December 12, 2012, ensuring to the participant
confidentiality of the collected data and knowledge of all aspects of the research. It was
verified a prevalence of female individuals (87.5%), single (50%), aged between 34 and 38
years (50%), with training time up to three years (50%) and performance the institution for
research up to two years (50%). Most participants have expertise in emergency and urgency
and Intensive Care Units, and they have never taken courses about the thematic of the
Hospital Infection Control Commission (62.5%). After analyzing the reports, it can be
formulated three categories: Knowledge about the function of the Hospital Infection Control
Commission, Recognition of the importance of nurses in Hospital Infection Control
Committee and the hospital nurses Contribution towards the Hospital Infection Control
Commission, and it were identified weaknesses in the knowledge of clinical nurses about the
functions that must be performed by the committee. However, contradictorily, they said
collaborating with the commission meeting their standards and protocols and recognizing the
importance of nurses in this committee. Thus, considers the implementation of educational
programs for health professionals, especially clinical nurses, referring to the Hospital
Infection Control Commission and its participation in the execution of activities established
by them, aiming to qualify for assistance, minimizing indexes of Hospital Infection.
