Abstract:
One of the most relevant aspects of contemporary democracy is overcoming the difficulty of constituting a political representation that meets the collective's wishes. The discussion about political representation in the Brazilian political system takes into account several relevant aspects, such as: how political decision-making takes place; and if the public interests are really seen. Thus, the essential characteristics related to the prerogatives of state parliamentarians of Paraiba are analyzed, observing the performance of these representatives in their actions as legislators, in the aspects of the decision-making processes in line with their performance in the electoral arena. The present study aims to analyze the factors that constitute the representation and the performance of the deputies in the legislative functions and its electoral features in the period from 2015 to 2018. For data analysis, the descriptive statistics method was used. The results indicate that there is a diversity of parties occupying the seats of the state legislature and that the participation of parliamentarians in the Annual Budget of the State Executive is intense. In addition, when analyzing the electoral process and the presentation of budget amendments, there are disparities between representatives. It was observed that alliances between parties have more influence than party leaders, and that representatives act individually in relation to the presentation of amendments and, the obtaining elective positions is important for maintaining them or acquiring new positions.
