Abstract:
During the phase of mental development, there is an increased contribution of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, making them able to influence at certain stages of this phase. Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids include the families of omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6, precursors of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, arachidonic acid, Eicosapentaenoic acid l and docosahexaenoic acid. Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are prevalent in the central nervous system, It is essential for the neurological development. The ostrich oil, little known in Brazil, It is rich in fatty acids as Omega 3, Omega 6, Omega 7 and Omega 9. In order to investigate the behavioral changes in the offspring of treated rats during the period of pregnancy and lactation fat diet (14%) containing ostrich oil as a lipid source, primiparous females, Wistar the lineage, they were used to obtain the males rats. Two groups were formed: the control group received standard diet and the other experiment that received standard diet modified, containing 14% oil ostrich. After weaning, litters were divided into two groups, the control group, from the rats that received standard diet and the ostrich oil group, the rats that received the experimental diet. To evaluate the effect of oil on the animals' anxiety, two tests were performed: Field Test Open, and test Plus Maze High. In most analyzed parameters behaviors were observed anxiolytic the oil group group compared to the control group, and increasing ambulation in open-field test, in the maze test, the less time spent in the closed arms, and greater permanence in the central area. In contrast, only the number of entries into the closed arms in the oil group, this being an anxiogenic behavior. however, this behavior can be interpreted as an increase in exploratory activity of animals, since they spent less time in these arms. The other parameters showed no statistical difference. Thus, it was observed that ostrich oil consumption, in rats, during pregnancy and lactation, caused a decrease in offspring anxiety.
