Resumen:
Recovering asylum word origins, Ribeiro (2009) describes as being a location that offers protection and welcome to the people present in it. During time, the term was replaced by elderly long stay institutions the aim of these institutions is to assure the integral “care” for the elderly (60 years or more), in a way to preserve their rights and dignity. Therefore, this study intends to evaluate the caregivers perception from the elderly long stay institution Casa do Idoso- Vó Filomena, situated in the city of Cuité-PB, about the care process, also, to learn about employees satisfaction in relation with work and their work environment relation. It is a transversal research of qualitative and descriptive approach, where the data were collected through recorded interviews, and after transcripted to data analysis through content analysis method. It was applied the WHOQOL-bref questionnaire in order to analyse the caregivers life quality. The interviewed were 11 people, from feminine gender in their majority. Facing the interviews results, it was perceived that caregivers practice their responsible occupation, having in consideration the human being life to be cared, demonstrate identification with elderly public, satisfaction in performing their work, besides the fact that it was mentioned their capacitation and courses necessity to support them to improve their tecnics and their work as a whole. The caregivers life quality was considered satisfactory, with base in the frequency of positive answers to the questions of applied questionnaire. It is concluded, in this way, that the caregiver is an essential functioning part of an elderly long stay institution and, that there is the necessity of deepening studies about these individuals, aiming always to understand their conceptions while people.
