Resumen:
The attention to sexual and reproductive health and family planning services are human
rights, the benefits of family planning methods and access to appropriate information are
essential to everyone. The health professionals must act investigating the condition that
contraindicates the use of hormonal contraception, to initiate the choice of hormonal
contraception is required a detailed clinical evaluation analyzing the risks and benefits of
using this drugs. The use of contraceptives in women should avoid in conditions that in
combination with this method may increase the risk of illness or death. This study aimed to
analyze the profile of women using hormonal contraceptives that are registered in a family
health care unit; to identify identify risk factors associated with the use of hormonal
contraceptives and verify signs and symptoms that are associated to the use of hormonal
contraceptives. The methodology proposed for a descriptive field study with a quantitative
approach and it was performed in a family health care unit located in the city of Cajazeiras-
PB. The target population consisted of 238 women registered in the unit for planning family
activities and the sample was 70 women who fit the inclusion criteria. The data was collected
after the permission of Ethics Committee for Research through a semi-structured
questionnaire. After collection, the instruments were listed and coded using the statistical
package Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 21. The variables were analyzed
statistically. Based on the results, it was noted that 58,6% of women were between 17-34
years, 70% had high school, 78,5% with a partner 50% with no gainful employment, the most
common personal antecedents were hypertension, anemia and smoking. There were
predominance between the appropriate parameter of women’s pressure index by the moment
of collection. In relation to body mass index, they were in the proper weight however, a high
percentage of women were overweight /obese. About the abdominal circumference, the
women showed low/moderate risk. They reported amenorrhea, pain and/or leg swelling. In
relation to the health family history, they reported at least one family member who has
hypertension and diabetes. There was predominance of current usage of minipill, with 71, 4%.
The age of menarche was between 12 and 14 years, with 72,9%. Thus, the results obtained
allowed us to demonstrate there is an impetuous need to perform even more a study that
analyzes women that pretend or are in actual use of hormonal contraceptives.
