Abstract:
Since the twentieth century, the cinema, which was created primarily for the entertainment, has been revealed as an educator agent and has been subject of research related to education. Currently, the cinema is part of the field of information and communication technologies (ICTs), contributing immensely to a significant learning. Given the educator potential of cinema, this research aims to understand how it has been present in the lessons of Sciences and Biology in public and private educational institutions in the cities of Jaçanã (RN), Cuité (PB) and Nova Floresta (PB), located in the Brazilian semiarid region. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for data collection and involved seven managers and 14 teachers of science and biology of the elementary segment II and high school. It was observed that 100% surveyed schools are equipped with basic audio-visual equipment, but they lack of adequate space to use them. It was also observed that all of the teachers have already used this resource and consider the film an important tool in the classroom of science and biology. According to the results, the kind of film most used in the classroom is animation (86%). Ecology (93%) and anatomy (64%) are the most developed themes in classroom with this artifact. The results also showed a problem in the teachers' instrumentation to use this language significantly (43%), claiming that they have difficulties to plan lessons using films. Given that the cinema is an accessible resource and that is present in the daily lives of most students and it has a more comprehensible language to the student than the scientific language, it can be inserted into the classroom efficiently and act as a facilitator and aggregator agent of knowledge. It is expected that the results obtained in this research collaborate with the development of teaching strategies, involving the seventh art in the classes of science and biology.
