In this study we sought to measure the prevalence of alcohol and other psychoactive substances among high school students of Cuité municipality of Paraíba state, in addition to verifying the existence of prevention programs. It was conducted in two –of two - schools, and the private and public network. The instrument used to analyze the prevalence were anonymous questionnaires, consisting of 15 self-applied issues in the classroom, and to investigate the existence of public prevention policies were visited four public agencies. The sample was conducted with 186 students of both sexes, attending high school. The results showed that alcohol is the substance most commonly used among these students, then the Tobacco with 7.5%, Cannabis 6.5%, Sedatives 4.8%, Loló or inhalant 3.2%, Cocaine 1.6%, Crack 1.1%, Anabolic Steroids 0.5% and LSD 0.5%. Three municipal public agencies have prevention programs, such as Military Police, Municipal Health and the Municipal Social Assistance. The prominent index of alcohol users, as well as the ease with which the nature of licit and illicit psychoactive substances spread, leading to the need for new programs. Thus being able to employ new experiences and recreational activities to work on preventing the use, abuse and addiction drugs.
