The etiologic agent of the disease (DENV) is an RNA virus of the genus Flavivirus belonging to the Flaviviridae family with four different serotypes DENV 1, DENV 2, DENV 3 and DENV 4. It is estimated that 2/5 of the world population is at risk of contracting dengue and about twenty thousand deaths annually as a result of this disease transmitted by vectors of the genus Aedes. In Brazil, Aedes aegypti and dengue carrier, found climatic conditions favorable to their proliferation, and consequently major epidemics have been recorded in the country in recent years. In this context, this study analyzed the epidemiological situation and its indicators in the municipality of Cuité, Paraíba. This is a descriptive epidemiological study where secondary data were extracted from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (Sinan) by Epidemiological Surveillance Coordination and entomological indicators were raised in endemics sector of the municipality. The results presented here show a higher incidence of dengue in the city between 2006 and 2015 in the age group of 20-34 years with vector infestation rates above the recommended by the Health Ministry as satisfactory (<1%), reaching Infestation Indexes land of 7.8% in June and July with focal prevalence of 82.5% in deposits classified as A2 characterized as household containers of the population at ground level.
