Résumé:
The goal of this research is to introduce the initial concepts of Algebra in later years through the Problem Solving, promoting the development of algebraic thinking student and contributing to a significant teaching and learning. Interest in the subject arose from questions by own experiences as a teacher. It is characterized as an intervention research with qualitative approach and is divided into four parts: guidelines for the teaching of Algebra and Problem Solving in the Brazilian curriculum system; authors conceptions regarding Algebra and perspectives to work through the Problem Solving; methodological procedures; discussion of the results regarding the use of the methodology through the Problem Solving. Finally, it highlights the importance of how the initial concepts of algebra have been built, promoting reflections on teachers of this teaching methodology to achieve significant results in their classrooms.
