Abstract:
Practical activities from the environmental education field have brought many possibilities for positive action as well as a greater awareness about the environment.
Due to this fact, we developed a project to raise awareness and bring higher participation in environmental initiatives among the middle school students from the educational institution Contexto de Educação e Desenvolvimento da Aprendizagem – CEDAP, located in Santa Cruz (RN), Brazil.
For this project we worked on the environmental problems generated by the accumulation and poor waste management, the recovery of municipal solid waste as raw materials and possible environmental solutions for recovering, recycling and reducing consumption.
In order to prepare for this project, we used observation, activities developed from oral input, and photographs. Students proved to be motivated and interested in the realization of this practical work. They actively participated and engaged in the production of materials. As a result, they have become more aware with regard to environmental conservation and acquired a real sense to learn more about the environment.
The next step is to to plan and evaluate an educational proposal on environmental education, using similar activities in a private middle and high school from Santa Cruz (RN).
