The rapid growth of population in the brazilian urban space and the changes of the
habits of life has led the advancement of production of materials and activities. These,
on the other hand, the more they are produced and consumed, the more the
overproduction of waste increases, which, deposited or collected inappropriately,
causing major impacts to the environment and compromise the quality of life of the
population. Based on this context, this monographic work aims to understand and
analyze the process of solid waste management in the city of Ipaumirim-CE, focusing
on Law 12,305/10, establishing the national solid waste policy. To achieve the goal was
made a bibliographical survey, descriptive research and field research. With this
research, it was found that the municipality concerned does not put into practice what
demands the Law 12.305/10, (PNRS), regarding the collection and disposal of solid
waste in the city above. Without proper planning for the Organization of the collection
and disposal of waste in the municipality, what's more troubling is linked to
environmental damage caused by the inappropriate provision of the waste before they
are collected that are deposited in drums near the residences, thus causing visual and air
pollution, Another point of concern is its final destination which is in a garbage dump in
the open air without any kind of proper management, therefore, we point out the
inconsistency of actions of the municipality of Ipaumirim-CE, regarding the PNRS, that
regulates the appropriate actions for the management of solid waste.
