Abstract:
Self-medication is a social problem and must be treated by the school as a cross-cutting theme, and since Organic Chemistry is closely linked to the formulation and composition of drugs, this work has both a formative and an informative character. The aim of this study is to develop the ability of critical thinking while learning fundamental concepts. The 43 students from the 2nd and 3rd grades of the Joel Pereira da Silva State High School in the city of Carrapateira-PB develop critical thinking skills. The research began with an extensive bibliographical research, where authors such as Pachelli, 2003, studied the process that man ingests remedies on his own. Subsequently a form was applied to evaluate the students' previous knowledge, and then the lectures were developed that covered the subject of "self-medication". Also included was a wide discussion attributed to the execution of a table on "bottles and natural teas used as medicines". Lessons were also given to improve students' learning, followed by the preparation of molecular models of the medicines most used in self-medication by students and by Finally, it was observed the need for the application of a new research instrument to investigate the modifications obtained by the methodological intervention proposed in this project. The results obtained in the research with the students showed that working with themes lived by them and contextualized in the classroom facilitates the construction of scientific / chemical knowledge, where 46.87% said that the use of the subject facilitated the understanding of the chemical concepts and 59.37% stated that the construction of molecules of the drugs most used by them facilitated the understanding of the content. Develop the importance of approaching social issues for the students' learning process and for the formation of conscious citizens capable of making adequate decisions on the issue of self-medication.
