Resumen:
Agroecology is considered an emerging science and emerges in a context of contestation of the current model of agriculture based on monoculture and intensive use of agricultural implements and inputs such as pesticides. This conventionally characterized agricultural model has been increasingly environmentally unsustainable and has also generated economic and social problems in the countryside for family farmers who have been marginalized by the evolutionary process that led to the modernization of agriculture. In the current scenario family farming stands out for its importance in food production, generating food and nutritional security for families living in the countryside. In the Northeast region family farming represents a percentage of 89.1% of agricultural establishments and in Paraíba this number of establishments represents 88.5%. The present work aimed to verify the agroecological production carried out in the Settlement Santo Antônio Cajazeiras-PB and its importance as a productive strategy for family farming. This research fits in the case study modality and from the literature review, document analysis and field studies in the Settlement Santo Antônio sought to know better the reality investigated. It was found that agroecological production carried out in the settlement can be seen as an important productive strategy for local farmers leading also to a more balanced relationship between society and nature.
