Resumen:
Mental Health is an extremely prevalent demand in the context of Brazilian Basic Care, which
is the gateway to the public health system. Despite this, non-specialist doctors still have many
difficulties to face this type of demand, a fact that results in strengthening of problems such as
medicalization. The present study was written with the objective of evaluating the
standardization of Mental Health medicalization in the context of Brazilian Primary Care,
through a bibliographical survey using the integrative review method. It was observed that the
medicalization is related to several factors, such as advances in medicine that interferes and
pathologize aspects previously considered normal in the Mental Health aspect, besides the
problem of drug use as the main and often only option therapy. It was necessary to stimulate
non-medicalizing strategies, such as Matricial Practice, Permanent Training Strategies,
Therapeutic Groups, Reception, Home Visits and Therapeutic Listening.
