Abstract:
Objective: To unveil the experiences of being a mother and a nurse in fulfilling their roles. Method: Qualitative, exploratory research, based on the hermeneutic phenomenology proposed by Martin Heidegger. Ten nurses from a hospital participated in the municipality of Campina Grande-PB. Data collection took place through semi-structured and individual interviews. For the systematization of data, the comprehensive analysis was used. Results: Nurses have difficulty reconciling work and home. However, they rely on family support in daily tasks, but are dissatisfied with professional devaluation, but not with motherhood. Conclusion: It was observed that women have difficulties in reconciling domestic and work activities and still they are seen as protagonists of the care, however, the greater implication of the conciliation concerns the woman, who is forgotten by the nurses. There was no evidence of dissatisfaction with being a mother, they were shown with motherhood, however, they expressed indignation at the exhausting work and their testimonies denounce the little professional recognition they receive.
