Résumé:
Sexual harassment is a discriminatory and violent practice that relies on gender inequalities.
In the academic field, cases are frequent and the justification for these situations is the fact
that environments such as the university where there is a power structure with different levels
of dependence are more likely to promote and sustain practices of sexual harassment. Given
this conjuncture, this study has as main objective to investigate the cases of sexual harassment
experienced by nursing students. It is a cross-sectional and descriptive research with a
quantitative approach. The research site was the Education and Health Center of the Federal
University of Campina Grande. The survey had 110 participants, of whom 59.1% experienced
some type of sexual harassment in the academic environment. The most repeated form of
sexual harassment was the embarrassment by obscene words or deeds. Among the places that
occurred the harassment, highlighted the events of the university, and the harassment was
done, mainly, by students of other courses of the campus. In addition, the feelings that stood
out the most against sexual harassment were fear and anxiety. As a coping strategy, the
students mentioned that they used the dialogue with people who have been through the same
situation. In view of the results, the need was identified for the institutions to be nonextendable,
which should pay due attention to such silenced attitudes.
