Resumo:
This study had as its main purpose to meet the design of religious leaders about the impact of the religiousness/spirituality in mental health. It is a descriptive, exploratory research, qualitative approach, carried out with five religious leaders of the municipality of Cuité-PB between the months of February and April 2019. As an instrument of collection was used a semi-structured interview and material analysis was guided by the method of content analysis proposed by Bardin. The study was approved by the ethics and Research Committee under the opinion of 3,155,565 and number CAAE: 05474818.0.0000.5182. Among the results, it was possible to notice that most of the religious leaders offers a good design on the mental health-disease process and that these also acknowledge the spirituality/religiosity as important protective factor for the mental illness and to a better quality of life, as well as see the religious/spiritual experience as a positive factor for the treatment of psychic suffering. Therefore, that religious leaders play a key role when talking about this influence, because work on the guidance and direction of the faithful, thereby directly and indirectly influence the health-disease process, from prevention until the management of distress.
