Abstract:
Beauty salons hold a large number of clients worldwide, thus allowing the spread of bacteria, whether pathogenic or not. Since some of these microorganisms inhabit the skin, such as Staphylococcus aureus, it is possible that these are transmitted by shared makeup tools, such as eyelashes mask. This work aimed to investigate the presence of S. aureus in eyelashes mask in beauty salons in Cuité, Paraíba. The samples were collected in three beauty salons through swabs and placed in test tubes with BHI broth (Brain Heart Infusion). Then they were cultivated in Salted Manitol Agar, MacConkey Agar, Mueller-Hinton Agar and Sabouraud Dextrose Agar. After an incubation period of up to 2 days, S. aureus bacteria were not detected in any of the cultured samples; however, the Micrococcus luteus microorganism was found in one of the samples. This species M. luteus is found in transition in the human skin, which possibly enabled this spread. After the analysis of studies, even with the limitation of these, it was observed that this bacterium, despite minimal health risks, could present several human life advantages such as antibacterial action, antioxidant activity and sun protection factor. This growth can be explained from the possible inefficacy of the preservative system of this sample, which could allow the growth of other microorganisms. It was concluded thus, that it is necessary to prevent the sharing of eyelash masks, and the importance of cleaning and correct hygiene of this utensil. After the analysis obtained from the research, a return was made to the salons explaining the results, and some information about the correct cleaning of this makeup and the importance of this, through an explanatory folder.
