Resumo:
Although the important democratization of the knowledge about cervical cancer, there are still
gaps and resistance of women, even of those who are nursing students, to seek for health
services. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge and experience of
nursing students on the prevention of cervical cancer. It is a descriptive study with qualitative
approach, conducted in the Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, at Cajazeiras-PB city.
The sample consisted of 17 nursing students. Data were collected by semi-structured
interviews and analyzed using the technical devices of the Discourse of the Collective
Subject. With regard to ethical procedures, this study was performed after the favorable
opinion from the Committee for Ethics in Research of the educational institution involved,
under the certificate number 1642780. The main speeches were linked to: cervical cancer
characteristics; relation between human papillomavirus and cervical cancer; knowledge of
nursing students about Papanicolau (Pap) test; their experiences during the examination;
shame and lack of time making the gynecological prevention difficult; family support and
knowledge of the benefits of the screening test. So, we hope to more studies in other
educational programs to make a situational diagnosis that identifies the knowledge and
experience about Pap test in other scenarios.
