Abstract:
Hospital health care for children and adolescents has expanded, especially in the last
century, promoting a new look at the specificities of the childhood and youth phases,
and inserting in the health-illness-care process the companion, importance for
qualifying the life and health of minors, including by being able to assess the care
provided. The objective of this study was to analyze the perception of the pediatric
patients' attendants on the nursing and medical team's assistance. This is an exploratory
study, of a descriptive nature and with a qualitative approach carried out at Hospital
Universitário Júlio Bandeira. Fifteen inpatients were sampled. As an inclusion criterion,
companions older than 18 years, and exclusion, the companions who were not
physically and mentally able to participate in the research. Data collection was
performed from November 1 to December 24 in 2018. The objective data were analyzed
by means of descriptive statistics and the subjective ones were transcribed in their
entirety and later analyzed with the help of the Software Interface for Multidimensional
Analyzes of Textes et de Questionnaires, and later categorized by the method proposed
by Laurence Bardin. The study respected the ethical precepts set forth in Resolution
466/2012 of the National Health Council, and was approved by the Ethics Committee of
the Federal University of Campina Grande / Teacher Training Center under opinion nº
2.672.468. Three categories were constructed, namely, Category 1 - Perception of the
companions in front of the nursing and medical assistance; Category 2 - Nursing team
performance regarding the classification with risk classification; and Category 3 -
Satisfaction of the companions before the attendance of the nursing and medical team. It
is observed that the study participants perceive nursing and medical assistance as
resolutive, where their qualities stand out over fragilities, resulting in improvement of
the health of the children, which makes them feel satisfied with the assistance.
However, their lack of understanding of nurses' role and importance, as well as the
meaning of care with risk classification, should be considered. In addition, the lack of
appropriate interaction with the medical team, factors that are directly related to the
professionals' performance. There is evidence of the need to implement actions that
minimize the fragility of nursing and medical assistance, in order to qualify the service
provided.
