Resumo:
Introduction: Prostate cancer is a malignant tumor characterized by slow growth, affecting
the bladder functions of man. Globally this type of cancer is the sixth most common type. In
Brazil, it is the second most common among men getting behind the nonmelanoma skin
cancer, accounted for the second highest cause of death by cancer, since the first is lung
cancer. Objective: To investigate the risk factors associated with prostate cancer in men
suffering from this disease in the city of Santa Cruz, Paraíba (PB). Material and Methods:
Study of exploratory, cross-sectional, quantitative approach with qualitative data which were
obtained through field research. The research will be conducted in the homes of men in
treatment of this disease, the aforementioned city, with the inclusion criteria, agree to
participate spontaneously Search, aged less than 40 years of age. Results: were analyzed and
tabulated in a spreadsheet in Microsoft Office Excel 2007, and tables to eat discursion
according to related literature. Conclusion: Stood out as risk factors associated with prostate
cancer in this study, age, predominantly 71-80 years (37%); family history of prostate cancer,
father (28%), uncle (9%), brother (5%); consumption of red meat (65%), smoking (85% ever
smoked and still smokes 7%) and alcoholism (79%). We observed that low demand of men to
health facilities for disease prevention, lack of knowledge about the pathology in these screen
can also be associated with the risk factors for prostate cancer.
