Resumo:
This work introduces a comparison between two programming languages (Fortran and Python) through mathematical problems. This study is important due to the great utilitisation of computational resources on the various areas of Mathematics, in academic as well commercial sectors. For this reason, the goal of this work is to use informatics as a tool to make mathematical calculations, to know the technologies Fortran and Python and to compare their performances regarding processing speed, accuracy in calculations and language usability. Therefore, we verified that depending on the problem situation, there's a variation in the results: in some situations, Fortran proved to be better; in others, Python. Due to the range of possibilities, this work can serve as base to more further studies about the theme and can be complemented with more diversified mathematical problems. In this context, it is observed that there is not necessarily a better language than another, one should seek the most appropriate for the type of problem in question.
