Resumo:
The National Policy of Men’s Health Integral Care was created to minimize the morbidity and
mortality rate of the male population; however, in order to be effective in its implementation,
it is necessary that the trained and in training health professionals be properly educated,
qualifying the provided assistance. The present study aims to ascertain the perception of the
nursing students about their academic education for men’s assistance in Primary Health Care.
This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach carried out with seventeen nurses in
training in the Federal University of Campina Grande from the Teacher’s Training Center.
Data collection was done through the application of guided interview by semi-structured
script and registered by recording the speeches of participants. It was established as inclusion
criterion in training nurses who were properly enrolled with the subjects Supervised
Internship I and II; and of exclusion, those who were attending concurrently disciplines that
were not corresponding to those of the eighth and ninth semester or those that could not be
contacted during the period of data collection. The analysis of objective data was performed
by descriptive statistics and the subjective ones by the technique of content analysis
elaborated by Laurence Bardin. Were obeyed the ethical aspects of the Resolution N°
466/2012 of the National Health Council regulating researches involving human subjects,
ensuring the participants' rights to autonomy, secrecy and anonymity of information. The
Research Ethics Committee presented a favorable opinion numbered 2.458.220. The speeches
were organized into four categories: Knowledge about the National Policy of Men’s Health
Integral Care; Experiences in the men’s health care; Quality of training in men’s health care;
Academic preparation to Academic preparation to answer the demands in men's health care.
Through analysis of the speeches of the nurses in training it can be seen the lack of knowledge
about men’s health care and the National Policy of Men’s Health Integral Care; lack of supply
in the academy of a specific men's health care discipline; internships with low-demand and
opportunities to work in men's health care; in addition to the lack of appropriate preparation
due to inadequate training. There is a need for education aimed at developing skills,
encompassing the nurses' performance for the men’s health care in the Primary Health Care.
