Violence against women has been manifested in a variety of ways, among them the obstetric violence that must be understood in its totality, in its forms, damages and acts done to the female population and its baby, where there is a lack of ethics, respect , responsibility and commitment to the sexual and reproductive rights of the parturient, a traumatic process in the life of the parturient, starting from prenatal care and extending to the puerperium, thus characterizing a serious public health problem in Brazil. The present study aims to characterize the knowledge of puerpera e about obstetric violence with a holistic look at a silent reality. This is a field study, descriptive with a qualitative approach. Data collection was performed at the public maternity hospital Doutor Peregrino Filho in the city of Patos-PB in the period from 13 to 15 May. To analyze the data, they were tabulated and analyzed in the Excel 2013 software, presented in tables and graphs to better expose the information following the categories of variables previously determined. The study respected the ethical and legal precepts of resolution 466/2012 and 510/2016. The results showed that the majority of the mothers were between 22 and 33 years of age (75%), in relation to the civil status (44%) they were single, the level of education of the participants prevailed in full secondary education (37%), type of delivery, (94%) preferred vaginal delivery, in relation to mother and child contact in the first hours (69%) stated that this stimulation occurred. It is concluded that the study contributes to obstetric nursing care free of harm, thus collaborating with the deceleration of this type of violence and that provides better knowledge to women so that they can recognize when they are victims of this event.
