Resumo:
Pressure Ulcers (PU) is a world order issue that directly affects bedridden
patients or with some degree of difficulty in mobilizing, and has become a challenge as the
prevention and treatment, especially in debilitated people, encouraged research all over the
world. The nurse plays an important role in patient care, even when it comes to prevention
and treatment of wounds because it has greater contact with the patients, following the risk of
development and the evolution of the injury, directing and performing the dressing.
Objectives: To evaluate the knowledge of nursing professionals of Primary Health Care
(PHC) in the city of Cuité-PB about patient care at risk or with PU. Methodology: This is a
descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research was conducted in the Health of
the Family Units in Cuité-PB. The study population consisted of 11 nurses who work in the
Family Health Strategy in the city of Cuité-PB. These professionals were represented by the
nurse, assistant or nurse technician. The data collection has occurred in November and
December 2014 through a questionnaire with multiple-choice questions. The data were
presented quantitatively and analyzed in the light of the relevant literature. Results: The study
analysis showed that nurses have difficulties to identify the categories of PU, in choosing the
products to be used for cleaning, as well as the technique to be used in this situation and also
in the choice of toppings to be used in PU. Auxiliary / techniques has also the difficulties
presented by the nurses, and sometimes assist users in a manner inconsistent with their duties
and technical capabilities, as in the case of user evaluation, conducting complex healing,
debridement, choice of coverage, among others. Conclusion: These results underscore the
need for training of these nurses by conducting courses in the area of wounds and specific
training for the users at risk monitoring / or with PU, looking for offer a quality service to
users, their families and caregivers.
