Syphilis is a systemic bacterial disease, the etiologic agent of which is Treponema pallidum, and it is involved in sexually transmitted infections. Its transmission occurs in two forms, one sexual and one vertical. The second is responsible for the occurrence of congenital syphilis, and this is fatal. If not diagnosed and treated early could be have a negative effect. The objective was to analyze pregnant women's perception of syphilis and its implications. The present study has a descriptive character of the exploratory type, with a qualitative character. The research was carried out with 17 pregnant women belonging to six basic health units chosen from the Municipality of Cajazeiras, state of Paraíba, in the months of May and June. The results were divided into two distinct moments, the sociodemographic data were first grouped, with a quantitative approach, and later they were categorized according to the Bardin content analysis. The research followed all the recommendations of Resolution No. 466/12, guaranteeing to the participants the preservation of the data collected, approved by the Research Ethics Committee with opinion Nº 2.606.398. The participants had an age group between 18 and 37 years old, the majority had stable marital status, brown race / color, average level of education. Three categories were outlined: Category I: Prenatal Care for Syphilis Prevention and Control; Category II: Knowledge about Syphilis Disease; Category III: Perception of Pregnant Women on the Professional Performance of Family Health Strategy. Thus, it was noticed that pregnant women understand the importance of attending prenatal care, as well as behaviors that should be taken during the pregnancy period. Many understand that syphilis is acquired through protected sexual intercourse, but they do not know that if it is not treated during pregnancy it can transmit to the fetus. It is necessary for the professional of the family health strategy to act directly with regard to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, always seeking to clarify these implications in a simpler way. It is imperative that professionals act on the guidelines, seeking to invest and treat health education more efficiently, so that the knowledge passed on is easily accessible and comprehensible so that the population has the necessary knowledge.
