Resumo:
The current worldwide growing concern about the water shortages and its impacts on the
future has made the companies to realize that to have their goals aligned to the issues of
minimizing losses, and apply methods of reuse, can be a competitive advantage in short
term and a matter of survival in long term. Nowadays, it is well known that
environmental issues are influencing more and more the socio-economic performance of
any company. This is evidenced by the creation of KPIs at Braskem called eco-indicators,
environmental indicators whose targets are evaluated monthly to track their performance.
This work was focused on the eco-indicator "water". Today it is recognized that water is
a scarce natural resource and essential for industrial processes that require significant
amount of good quality water for business continuity. Therefore, companies are seeking
ways to improve their sustainability performance, consuming less natural resource and
creating more alternatives for reuse, fewer emissions, there are several challenges to be
faced. Another factor observed and felt worldwide is the man's carelessness in the
utilization of this so important resource for life. The objectives of this work are: To
characterize water streams and discuss possible alternatives to minimize water
consumption; and also convince the employees that water is a matter of growth, survival
and continuation of the business. According to the undertaken studies we can say that it is
possible to reuse some streams that have been considered effluent so far, thus reducing
water consumption and effluent generation.
