Resumen:
The objective of this study is to propose a knowledge management methodology that
contributes to the utilization of the sustainable indicators systems as benefit to sustainable
practices. Therefore, performing an exploratory research of quantitative and qualitative
nature, based on the knowledge management practice proposals of Senge (1990), Lesca
(1996), Kolb (1997), Meister (1999), Garvin (2001), Fontanini (2005) and Eboli (2004) and
in the methodology of the sustainable indicators proposed by Martins e Cândido (2008). The
proposed system has five stages: recognition of the problem, the sustainable diagnostic, the
search for solutions using the knowledge management, the evaluation of the knowledge
management practices and the identification and implantation of the new sustainable
development action. The application of the methodology was put to use in two companies of
the ornamental stone sector, located in the city of Campina Grande. For the analysis of the
results of the research application it was used the content methodological strategy of
triangulation of data collected through interviews with managers of companies surveyed. The
results indicate that the ornamental stone sector act with a predomanent1y economic vision,
having an unbalance between the social, environrnental, cultural and institutional
dimensions. It concludes that knowledge management methodology for the use of
sustainability indicators opens a new perspective to the progress of sustainable development
transcends the look submitted by the dominant paradigm emerging in a new look, turned to
the construction of a new reality linked to an vision of holistic and integrative world.
