Résumé:
Among the sectors which integrate a hospital structure there is the surgical center. It faces, in turn, constant challenges of a quality work meant to satisfy its clientele’s needs. The surgical center unit is considered to be one of the most complex in a hospital because of its specificity and due to the stress the surgical team suffers and the great probability to expose the patient to certain risks as a result of any surgical procedure. The complexity of the anesthetic and surgical actions point up the presence of the nurse as they have a relevant function in the development of strategies which ensures the security and confidence of the team so that they have a solid, quality assistance based on the principles of ethics and bioethics. Objective: To review the literature on the praxis of nursing in the surgical center and its repercussions for patients and nurses. To check the responsibilities that nurses must take in the surgical center. Ascertain the repercussions of the praxis of nursing for nurses and patients. Methodology: It is an integrated review of the literature carried out in May and June 2015 on Virtual Health Library (BVS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online Database (MEDLINE), Caribbean and Latin American Literature on Health Science (LILACS), Nursing Database (BDENF) and on Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). It was used as a search strategy: “Nurses AND Surgical Centers”, “Nurses AND Nursing Care”, “Surgical Centers AND Nursing Care” and “Nurses AND Surgical Centers AND Nursing Care”. As inclusion criteria, articles available in their entirety over a period of 10 years (2005 – 2015) were delimited in English, Portuguese and Spanish, and the exclusion criteria were summaries, annals, articles in duplicate as well as articles with focus different from the appointed ones and use of kindred non-appointed writers. The sample was composed of 18 articles. Results and Discussion: The results point to the importance of interaction between nurses, the team and patients highlighting the performance of the nurse in the context of a quality, planned and individualized assistance. Some studies show that the institution must facilitate better and faster patient’s recovery if carried out in a consistent way. Nursing professionals involved in this process must be prepared both in technical, theoretical terms but also in humanistic ones. The importance of the nurse’s performance in the surgical center setting is noticeable to their patient and their patient’s family, seeing that their assistance will influence directly in their recovery and welfare. This evidence makes it clear that more researches about the subject are necessary. Conclusion: This study is believed to contribute to and influence reflections, ideas, habits, plan of action, practices and way of thinking of nursing professionals, especially the nurse.
