Resumo:
The Night Eating Syndrome (SCN) is an eating disorder associated with a delay in the circadian rhythm of food intake mediated neuroendocrine changes, with three main characteristics: morning anorexia, evening hyperphagia or night and insomnia. Studies have observed an association between eating disorders and overweight or obese, which occur frequently among adolescents and individuals with SCN. This study deals with a descriptive and quantitative cross-research whose aim was to characterize the prevalence of SCN in high school students enrolled in the federal institute of education in the municipality of Picuí/PB and its association with weight and age. The methodology consisted of applying self administered questionnaire, using the Night Eating Questionnaire, translated and adapted to Brazilian version, and the self-reported weight and height. To evaluate the association between weight and age in the occurrence of SCN, BMI was used. We evaluated 104 students aged 14 to 26 years, and there were no differences between the characterization of the students on the course, age, anthropometric variables and sex. The SCN was observed in 1% of the students interviewed and 5,8% presented risk for development thereof; the analysis of nutritional status showed that 12,5% were overweight, and 9,6% and 2,9% characterized overweight and obesity, respectively. However there was no significant relationship between SCN with age and overweight, requiring further research to assess the prevalence of Night Eating Syndrome in picuiense population, as well as genesis and the intrinsic relationship of this with obesity and other diseases.
