Abstract:
The Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (ICHP) seek to integrate and extend
care through natural processes, promoting actions to subside and recover health and prevent
injuries. The study aims to analyze the nurses' discourse in relation to integrative and
complementary health practices in Primary Care. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative
approach, which was carried out with 14 nurses from the Family Health Strategies of the City
of Cajazeiras-PB. For data collection, an interview with a semi structured questionnaire was
conducted, which took place between June and July 2017, after approval by the Ethics and
Research Committee. For a data analysis we chose the Collective Subject Discourse (CSD)
proposed by Lefèvre and Lefèvre, obtaining four themes and 06 CSD. During the speeches, it
was possible to perceive the lack of knowledge of nurses in relation to the National Policy on
Integrative and Complementary Health Practices due to gaps in the training process and the
lack of education. There was also a duality without discourse, since even with the ignorance
of the nurses, they expressed a certain superficiality of the knowledge that governs politics,
based on the practices they offer. This study identifies as characteristics of ICHP, where
practitioners have scored as possible therapies as can be done in care. It was evidenced as a
highlight in the study of the orientation of medicinal and herbal plants and some confusion in
the differentiation and practices. It was possible to identify the factors that facilitate and make
difficult the realization of the ICHP in the field of Basic Attention. There is a need for
strengthening the academic training of nurses, decreasing existing gaps such the non-learning,
through the inclusion of disciplines and support of management of continuing education
actions referring to these practices no Primary Care scenario.
