Abstract:
Spatial filters are used for digital images to remove noise or perform some form
of segmentation. Based on studies of filter algorithms and their computational
complexity, an algorithm is implemented using reconfigurable hardware consisting of
FPGA's (Field Programmable Gate Arrays). The algorithm chosen is the reduced vector
median filter (RVMF). Results show the viability of spatial filter implementations using
reconfigurable hardware in order to resolve the complexity problem and maintain
flexibility of systems.
