Resumo:
Respiratory diseases have become a serious public health problem for a
number of years, by encouraging everyone to indiscriminate. Among the infections that have
a major impact on the hospitalization rate and the most notable ones are acute respiratory
infections (ARI), especially among children under five years of age, who are most often
infected during contact with adults co-workers, where Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)
stands out as the main causative agent of these infections. Despite the epidemiological
importance, studies in the northeast region are scarce. OBJECTIVES: To detect an incidence
and seasonality of infections caused by Respiratory Syncytial Virus in health and education,
not Hospital Universitário Júlio Bandeira, not high in the Sertão of Paraíba. MATERIALS
AND METHODS: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study of a quantitative approach.
The samples were obtained through nasal aspirates collected from the nursing team involved
in the care of the children attended at this health institution, being tested for the identification
of RSV antigen during the months of October 2016 to June 2017, performed through
immunochromatography, with the BinaxNOW-RSV Kit card. RESULTS: A total of 83 nasal
lavage samples were collected, consisting of 34 samples collected from nurses (40.90%) and
46 technicians (55.49%). CONCLUSION: We did not detect positive results of antigenic
proteins of the Synchronic Virus in the samples of three nursing professionals, corresponding
to (3.61%) of this class. It was possible to detect a seasonal pattern of infections by this viral
agent, but with a short incidence period.
