Abstract:
The Community Health Workers (ACS) is a professional who is a part of the minimum team
of the Family Health Strategy (ESF), whose through their work process takes on the essential
role in the consolidation of Primary Care (AB) thus making possible better resolution of the
problems presented by population from attached territory. The study aimed to investigate the
work process of the AB. It’s a descriptive research with a qualitative study with 22 ACS of
the AB in the city of Cajazeiras-PB. The data collection was realized through semi-structured
interview, and to arrange the interview results, it was used the methodological process of the
Collective Subject Discourse (DSC) that is a way to get the collective discourse on the basis
of individual speeches. All stages of research followed the Resolution 466/2012 of the
National Health Council. During the discourse analysis it was identified the fact of people
being unemployed has emerged as a big motivation to become ACS, but they already
identified with the community work. The results also showed the ACS is essential to facilitate
the access of families to actions and health services, and it’s considered a bond between the
community and the health team. It was demonstrated in these study there are factors that limit
their work, however, their actions can be strengthened when it involves all of people in the
construction of care in order to offer a quality service to the population. Lastly, it is believed
that this study will contribute to evoke new arguments and reflections between many
researchers, teams, and community managers about the importance of valuing and
recognizing these professionals’ work to strengthening the Primary Care.
