Abstract:
The mental health care advances on the perspective of the theories about the Psychiatric
Reform, deconstructing the knowledge about it and way it is handled patients in mental
suffering, emphasizing patients, family, community, interdisciplinary work and social
inclusion.This study aims to describe the experience and activities in Extension
Project"Music and dance expressions with mental health users," from the Psychosocial
Care Center (known in Brazil and forward at this study by the Portuguese acronym
CAPS II).This is a descriptive study, configured as an experience report, and developed
with 15 users from CAPS Cajazeiras, Paraiba, Brazil. In the period between October
2014 until March 2015. It were used as instruments of data collection the record of
experience in a diary, medical charts of users, final project report and service
reports.This research provides a constant transition between empirical data and theory,
with support authors who defends the Psychiatric Reform, as well as some authors who
work with the topic of music and art.The results showed that most participants were
female, aged between 46 to 56 years old, singles, illiterate and diagnosed with
schizophrenia.About the uses of music and dance, it was verified that they can
constitute as a helpful strategy for mental health care,making it possible to work self-
esteem, sociability, communication, joy, commitment and new forms of subjectivity of
users.In mental health, we must dare and to develop practical which seek give back to
the individual the possibility of genuine creation of his existence. Practices that help
building relations of expression which the user reappropriated subjectivity, producing a
singularity process.
