Abstract:
Patient safety is a contemporary cross-cutting issue worldwide, due to the risks that users are
subjected when seeking care in a health service. This work aims to analyze the knowledge of
the care and administrative teams on patient safety at Hospital Universitário Júlio Maria
Bandeira de Mello (HUJB). This is a descriptive study, carried out at the HUJB, in the city of
Cajazeiras, Paraíba, with a sample consisting of 46 employees working in the assistance and
management of the service of nursing, who agreed to participate in the study by signing the
Term of Consent and Clarification. The data collection was accomplished from February 14
to March 09, 2017, after the favorable position by the Research Ethics Committee of the
Federal University of Campina Grande. For that, it was conducted an interview, guided by a
semi-structured script. The interviews (corpus) were compiled using the Iramuteq software
and the multivariate analysis was used by means of the Descending Hierarchical
Classification (DHC), retaining 115 Elementary Context Units (ECU), from the 46 Initial
Context Units (ICUs). It propitiated the organization of the data in an illustration figure of the
relations between the classes / categories emerged: Aspirations for the successful practices;
Conditions to avoid errors; Building good practices and Structuring the safety culture. A
descriptive analysis of the quantitative data was carried out according to the existing theory
on the subject. The identified classes reflected the knowledge of HUJB nursing professionals
about patient safety. It is understood that humanization in patient care, a holistic view, guided
by knowledge acquired in academic formation and based on new knowledge that is cultivated
through lifelong education, leads to assistance that avoids errors and promotes safety.
