Resumen:
Ethnobotany is the study of relationships between peoples and plants, considering the management, perception and classification of this plant resource for different societies. Medicinal plants have great representativeness in the Brazilian biodiversity, and since the dawn of civilizations they have been used to cure and treat diseases with the knowledge of the applied techniques and their use being transmitted from generation to generation, orally, generating a popular knowledge around the same. Currently, about 80% of the population uses folk medicine resources to treat a disease. This study aimed to verify the use of ethnobotany in physical therapy. This is an integrative literature review with the purpose of coordinating the information obtained through the search, critical evaluation and synthesis of available evidence on the investigated theme. The results point to the use of medicinal and phytotherapeutic plants in the prevention and treatment of diseases regardless of prescription by a qualified professional. In addition, it presents the public policies established for the implementation and implementation of integrative and complementary therapies as health practices. The conclusion highlights the importance of alternative therapies and the use of medicinal plants and herbal medicines in the care of the population. Describes the need for a multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists, trained and attentive to new concepts in health, and consider the rescue of popular knowledge in this process.
