Resumo:
The water management in agro-industrial systems is a very importance instrument of
control in production line, able to promote sustainability in economic, social and
environmental projections of the company. Thus, this work aimed to investigate the
management of water in the production process of a dairy agribusiness in the city of
Sousa-PB, according to the legal standard international standard ISO 14.001. First,
for the research, we realize a survey by interviewing the company's technicians about
environmental practices and water management of the production of the dairy
process, based on non-structured questionnaire. The results showed that, despite
the company is concerned with environmental issues such as water reclaiming in the
production line and maintenance of riparian vegetation in the riverbed, the company
still needs an Environmental Management System (EMS) for the establishment of
guidelines and administrative and operational activities that result in positive effects
on the environment. Therefore, we used strategic analysis technique of SWOT matrix
to identify strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities and threats for the
establishment of environmental management through the Brazilian norm ISO 14.001.
It is possible to infer that the company is concerned with environmental issue and the
implementation of ISO 9000 and 22000, as a great opportunity for the
implementation of an EMS. However weaknesses refer to the large amount of water
used in the production process and the lack of clear objectives to promote balance
between environmental protection and socio-economic needs. Its geographical
location with periodic droughts and floods is the main threat.
