Abstract:
The practices of the promotion of to health, prevention of injuries and diseases influence the
different groups in their way of life and the adoption of healthy habits, impacting in the forms
of sickenandgrow old. This study aimed to verify which prevention and health promotion
practices used by college students. It is a study cross-sectional, descriptive was conducted
with 150 students at a Public University of Paraíba. The results showed most academics
female, aged between 16-20 years old, non-white, single, living with parents or relatives, with
an average income of three minimum wages and not working.The majority reported feeling
good physically, is satisfied with their health, with your life and more or less satisfied with
their living habits, considering their good life. Of the total sample, 84.3% said they did not
smoke and 65.3% did not drink. As the dietary habits, occur consumptions of salt, sugar and
fat regular and 88.7% regularly consume fruits and vegetables in the food; 54% do not
practice physical activities, 50% does not use sunscreen, 58% were with the updated cards
vaccines, 64% are sexually active and 50.7% use condoms during sexual intercourse. Among
women, 40.7% never performed Pap smear and 41.3% did not do self-examination of the
breasts. It evidenced in this study that some practices of prevention and health promotion
performed are by most scholars studied are inadequate. These results suggest the need for
promotion and prevention strategies health in the academia and society through awareness
and extension projects programs in order to provide that population measures that could
enable the adoption of appropriate practices to promote the health and disease prevention.
