Child care is the regular and systematic monitoring of children to assess their growth and
development, includes vaccination guidance to mothers on accident prevention, breastfeeding,
individual and environmental hygiene and also early identification of health problems, with a
view to effective and appropriate intervention. To identify the importance of childcare as a
promotion strategy for infant growth and healthy desenvovimento, addressing the perception of
nurses and mothers in AB on childcare, and describe the difficulties encountered in their
implementation as recommended by the Ministry of Health. This is an integrative literature
review that aims to gather and synthesize results of research on the importance of childcare as
a preventive method for infant illness. The survey was conducted in the databases: SCIELO,
BIREME and LILACS, using the descriptors: child care, child health and child development.
It was used as inclusion criteria: articles published in Portuguese, English and Spanish, which
were available in full for free. They were identified in the search 647 references. Being excluded
studies published in the review mode, thesis, dissertation, thesis, book or abstract in conference
proceedings, studies that were not freely available in full, which were not published in the
period from 2010 to 2015 and did not meet the theme in question. After careful analysis of
publications remaining 12 articles. Among which 2 are BIREME, LILACS 2 and 8 SCIELO.
The study showed that it is noticeable the importance of childcare, while promotion strategy of
growth and healthy child development, consisting of a valuable tool for monitoring and child
development. Indicating that nursing staff recognize its importance, but can not, in most cases,
implementing it as it should in ABS. Mothers, most often do not recognize their relevance,
seeking assistance only in tertiary care, to have only a curative vision. The study shows the
need to raise awareness about the importance of child care for the prevention of diseases and
promotion of children's health.
