Resumo:
School feeding is one of assurance strategies of the Human Right to Adequate Food (DHAA), which in turn is executed by the National School Feeding Programme (PNAE). The DHAA, speaks of the right to quality food, diverse, nutritionally adequate, without pesticides or contaminants and free of genetically modified organisms. GMOs or genetically modified organisms are transformed from its natural condition by means of genetic manipulation where you enter information into your code, which come from other beings with whom would have natural possibilities crossing. The School Feeding Council (CAE) advises and supervises the actions of the municipal government in the execution of PNAE, ensuring the quality of food. Therefore, this study aimed to know the understanding of CAE to the presence of GM foods in school meals in relation to their role as advisers in municipal schools in Cuité-PB. They interviewed five members of the CAE, through questions-guides. The interviews were recorded and transcribed in its entirety. The counselors understand their role as the inspectors of school meals quality, but had doubts and sometimes ignorance about the use of GMOs in school meals. They reported the lack of debate on the issue, expressing individual ideas that have not been discussed with the group, such as the strengthening of family farming in the city. Thus, we see the need for qualification of CAE, as a way to optimize discussion on the issue urging the search for ways to collaborate for the development of local agriculture and safe school feeding and quality.
