Resumo:
The aging group population has increased all over the country. In this aging process the human body suffer alterations that turns it vulnerable to many diseases. It is clear to see the lack of the elderly population interest in how the aging process will effect each individual. This lack of interest is more visible by the male population, they tend to be believe they are strong, viril and won't get sick. For this reason it is important to know how the aging process can affect, by that, preventive measures can be elaborated and implemented. GOALS: In this point, a study investigating the effect of the aging process associated in the elderly male group of Curimatau Paraibano. METHODOLOGY: It's a observational and descriptive study, quantitative data in a sample of 195 elderly. Data was collected by a questionary of 4 sections, personal, social, lifestyle and health issues. RESULTS: The results were analyzed based in a descriptive statistics, the test was by fourths to verify the association in the categories. The results show that the majority of the elderly population is between 60 and 74 year of age(median of 72,55), white, married, living with the spouse, catholics, low schooling and monthly income of 1 to 2 minimum salary. In relationship with the risk factors, it is seen that the majority are non smoking, non alcohol drinkers, but also they don't practice physical activities even though they have a low level of stress. The risk factor most visible are Hypertension Arterial (47,7%), Low back pain (31,8%), catharats (23,6%) e Diabetes (18,5%). In association to lifestyle and diseases we see that the use of alcohol and DPOC (0,007), alcohol and depression (0,005), physical activity and gastrointestinal diseases (0,027), stress and anxiety (0,001), smoking and heart disease (0,050), stress and heart disease (0,036), physical activity and low back pain (0,050). FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: It is conclusive the importance of health education, in the means of inform the male elderly population about propagating health and minimizing the risk of health disease for the elderly and giving better quality of life.
