Resumo:
This research addresses the construction of gender identity and the concept of semiarid incorporated in the teaching of former and current teachers from the individual and collective memory of hers (the teachers) and some people in the community Pitombeira farmstead, city of Sume. Situated in the semi-arid Paraiba Cariri, which presents the historical evolution; the characterization of the community, school and the student body. The purpose was to investigate the construction of gender identity from the memories, as well as the idea of semi-arid internalized and disseminated by these educators in teaching trajectory. The research is based feminist theorist (SOUZA and CARVALHO), and rely on authors to reinforce the principle of coexistence with the semiarid, (MALVEZZI), (NORA) and (TEDESCO), and others that support the oral history revealed by these professionals. The research used an ethnographic technique, with records of daily life and application of semi-structured interviews with former teachers who consider "natural" boys are aggressive, competitive, while girls are presented as docile and commitments which causes inequitable conduct for each gender.And in that context, the concept of semi-arid internalized in the minds and practice of these formers teachers during the teaching career is one that reinforces the ills and weaknesses the semiarid region. While the same technique performed with current schoolteachers revealed divergent views. These teachers conceive differently the semi-arid, as a rich space, great potential, which generate quality of life for the backland. And for them the construction of gender identity occurs in a non-sexist in the school, with postures that reveal the beginning of gender equity (in the school playground, and even during the activities in the classroom).Finally, the present educational research does not seek to blame, but understanding the idea of this semi-arid and coupled to the construction of gender identity, taking into account the teaching career, from the memories of former and current teachers.
