Résumé:
This work approaches the social criticism of Brazilian rock from the 1980s,
emphasizing rock from the Alto Sertão, specifically from Cajazeiras, going through the
censorship of the military dictatorship and re-democratization, first reviewing the music
criticism of the 1960s and 1970s, and then analyzing the social criticism of Brazilian
Rock in the 80s; we see that the artists of the 1960s and 1970s believed in the
revolutionary aspect of the lyrics, while in the second half of the 80s, with the end of the
military government, Brazilian rock artists did not include political aspects in their
lyrics with the same commitment of the artists of the previous decades (1960, 1970), but
during this research we see that 80s’ rock had hit bands for their politicized lyrics. The
objective of this research is to point out the social criticism that the bands Conspiração
Apocalipse and Arlequim Rock Band did through the lyrics and thus tried to expose
what was happening in this generation.
