Identidades nas telas: as representações do nordeste no cinema brasileiro: o Baile Perfumado(1997) e Central do Brasil(1998).

Abstract

The present study aims to identify and problematize the representations about the Northeast Region of Brazil, taking as reference the national cinematographic production, produced in the 1990s. Due to the extension of the production of the period, the films perfumed baile will be taken for analysis in 1997, under the direction of Lírio Ferreira and Paulo Caldas, and screenplay by Lírio Ferreira, Paulo Caldas, Hilton Lacerda and Central do Brasil, launched in 1998 with director Walter Salles and screenwriters Marcos Bernstein and João Emanuel Carneiro. The relevance of this discussion is due to the effervescence of the existing academic debates and the need to provoke new discussions on this theme. The research is inserted in the field of cultural history, taking as reference authors such as Albuquerque Júnior and Chartier, among others. The representations will be problematized, trying to understand how they help and contribute to the construction of an identity for the Northeast Region, through the movie theater.
