Resumen:
The present work aims to explore the photographic culture of the city of Cajazeiras at the
period from 1930 to 1980. This photographic culture, which is the central question of this
research, can be understood by the production, the circulation and the consumption of
photography in this society, that is, trying to understand how people appropriated this mean as
a way of perpetuating their images and how was the insertion and maintenance of being a
photographer in this space, since the habit of collecting photographs is present in most
families since its dissemination. For the research that is presented today, the collaboration of
the family of the photographer José Cavalcante, who acted in the city during the 50s and 60s
of the 20th century, was primarily, providing his photographic collection, and collaborating
through his memories, both about the life and the profession of José Cavalcante, as well as
information from the analyzed images.
