Breast cancer is the second type of cancer that affects more women aged 50 to 69 years. Among the factors that influence its onset are genetic and environmental. Early detection makes all the difference in the success of treatment. The therapy used depends on the stage of the disease, consists of: surgical and radiotherapy for locoregional treatment and hormone therapy and chemotherapy for systemic treatment. Being mastectomy the most used means of healing as a result of late diagnosis, aggressive treatment in many cases causing significant impacts on the lives of women. The care for this patient is of utmost importance, and as essential as the technical procedures, thus encouraging self-care with health education practices. The objective of this study was to integrative review in journals regarding the care the mastectomy patient. The search was conducted in the database SCIELO, LILACS. The following criteria were used: articles published in Portuguese, in the period 2006-2014 as scanning a total of 20 surveys, this total there were 17 scientific articles (85.0%), 02 dissertations (10.0%), and 01 monograph (5.0%). 20 reviews journals found to publications of 2006 (5.0%); 2008 (5.0%); 2009 (5.0%); 2010 (30.0%); 2011 (5.0%); 2012 (25.0%); 2013 (15.0%); and 2014 (10.0%). In general, these studies have contributed significantly to a better understanding of the care mastectomy patient, taking into account their psychosocial, family and emotional aspects that women face in their day to day.
